July 18

July 18, 2008
Got up early and went to see the bears. The bears did not care this morning that we were there and did not show. We did see eagles today and a duck which was something for an otherwise unfruitful morning for us to see bears. The salmon are supposed to be coming and we do see more in the stream. Met people that have been here before and it is an entirely different than what we are seeing. They said there were bears all over and dead fish, bears eating fish, sea gulls eating remains along with eagles.
At noon we went to go back for lunch and decided to stop at the bus restaurant. Unfortunately it was not open, so maybe if we are here tomorrow we will have lunch there.
We were waiting to see the grizzly and no bear, so we decided to go for a ride down a road the ranger told us about. Low and behold there were bear tracks on the sand near the river. When we went back to the bear viewing area there was a 4 year old female. Did we take pictures????? Gene has video. We will now stay another day since it is raining and they said the salmon usually run more after a rain. They go 2000 miles from the ocean to get back to lay there eggs. We have pics of the salmon making a nest laying eggs and the male coming to fertilize them. The greatest day…
