We were both so tired from all the exercise yesterday that we slept till 9am. After breakfast we took a ride to Bidderford Pool on the Atlantic Ocean. We walked for 2 hrs on the beach picking up rocks and shells. It was cloudy but not cold.At 5 we went to Norene's, our oldest daughter, were our grandson Jean made us a lobster and haddock dinner. It included salad, stuffing, ribs, and birthday cake for dessert. It was our g. grandson Dalton's and g. granddaughter Haley's Birthday. It was a wonderful evening.

What a great day. We went with Jolene & her fiance Jeff to Fort Williams an old military base that was active in the WW1 AND WWII. We hiked all around the fort and visited the lighthouse. Jolene & Jeff are planning to get married there next year so we took pictures and they showed us around. Dinner was in our rv and then we went to a Corn Maze in the middle of a 6 acre corn field. The corn was 9 ft. tall. Your received a Passport to go through the Maze. This was to guide the wandering maze goers through the correct pathways. When you came to a numbered sign inside the maze you stop and answer the corresponding numbered question on the passport. You answer the question and turn the direction of the answer you choose. The first question was "What is the most popular type of candy for trick-or-treaters? a. taffy (turn right), b. gum (turn left) c. candy bars (turn left). You choose one and try to find number 2 all the way up to 10. We did this at night with a flash light. What a great time. We walked for over 2 hrs until we found our way out. It was so cold (34) but fun and unique.

Thursday 10/23

In the morning we did a little grocery shopping. I decided to make a dinner of chili so we bought the fixings and got back to the rv and started cooking. We just hung around visiting with the grand and great grandkids. Daughter Norene and her husband Rich came over and I have no idea how many ate the "large" pot of chili. They said it was good and there was not a drop left in the pot. We also bought dessert of 2 platters of small Halloween cupcakes. When one platter was left Denver(a g.g. son)suggested that it would be good to mix the cupcakes in ice cream. A thought for tomorrow's dessert. Norene, Rich, Gene & I went back to the trailer and had a great visit. It is rare when we can spend time with just the two of them.
Pictures will follow.

Change of plans Tues & Wed

Right after posting the last blog at the Lee Library we got outside and found that there was a message from Sears saying they could not come out this week and set us up for an appointment next Monday. Sooooo we changed our plans and left Mass. on Tuesday and headed to N.H. to see our friend Anne on Tuesday. It was a quality visit and a plus was her friend Connie stopping over. We solved all the country's and world problems.
We left Pelham N. H. around 1 after having a bagel & lox sandwich.(GREAT) The drive to Maine was beautiful. We got to our granddaughter Jolene's and Jeff's house about 4:30 and set up in their driveway. Another granddaughter Jennifer wanted everyone to have supper together so she and Mike bought the pizza for about 12 of the family and friends there. It was a great day.

October 20, 2008

Cindy’s surprise birthday party Saturday was perfect, although one of her kids, Jackie was unable to make it since she just gave birth to twin girls on Monday. They weighed over 4 lbs each and there names are Emma Rose and Lillyanna Rose. That makes 20 great grand kids. We got reacquainted with the great grandkids we haven’t seen for a year. There was a great slide show with music that included the whole family through the years. It was bitter sweet because there are many family members who have died and sweet seeing how everyone has grown up or older. I enjoyed everyone singing with the slide show music “We Are Family”. We came home and some of the folks staying over in Norene and Marks campers built a fire and some came in our RV to watch the Red Sox’s tie the playoff game. Sunday a group of us went out to a very late breakfast at a little country restaurant. Football was the afternoon’s entertainment along with great conversation. Norene made a lobster salad and we had left over ham salad and potato salad. There were 15 in our trailer for the dinner. All the food was made by Renee and Norene and they did a great job. The slide show was created by our creative grandkids.
We were hoping to leave Mass. on Thursday but this morning we got a call that Sear’s is sending someone out to fix our microwave on Friday so we will probably go to Maine either Friday or Saturday and then stop in New Hampshire the following Monday or Tuesday.
Pics are not to clear. We should have more on the next blog.

Oct 13-15

Oct 13/15

We have gone grocery shopping, and riding around taking pictures. I have not been feeling well...down with sinus problems or a cold.
It is going to take 3 weeks for the rv repair place gets the parts to fix our rv, so, we are going to leave Lee Mass. and go to N.H. next Thursday to see our friend Anne and then go to Maine to visit more of the family on Friday. We will then come back and visit Joan, Gene’s sister in Conn.. Hopefully we will be able to get the rv fixed and then head back to Texas via Alabama to visit Joe’s wife and family... We hope will be home for Thanksgiving.
I am feeling much better as far as my voice goes but I still have a sinus headache. The weather is beautiful sunny and 71 and cool at night.
Andrew, Marci’s son and my grandson, and Terin his wife, are expecting a baby next June. They are so excited and so are we.
Our daughters surprise party is this Saturday and we are looking forward to seeing the family.
Gene is having fun working with Mark and Gene putting in an engine in a truck and working on the roof of Gene’s house the last 2 days.
It has been fun having so much time with the “boys” We watched the debates together.
And have our fingers crossed for Obama to win.
Julie we have given all the Obama stickers away and encouraged several to register and vote. HE CAN DO IT….

Oct 5 to 8

Oct. 5to 8th
We have visited with Mark, Gene and there friend Bill. The fall foliage is beautiful, with the weather being in the 60’s during the day and as low as 35 at night. It is supposed to be warmer during the day and evenings.
So far we have hiked a mile on the Appalachian trail, and hiked an old rock quarry that closed in 1920.There were pieces of old equipment, a tunnel used to testing drill bits and a great walk, 2 ½ mile, in the woods.
On a serious note Gene’s older brother Joe, who lives in Alabama, had a heartattack at home, and died last evening about 6:30pm. Unfortunately we or Gene’s sister Joan could not get to the hospital. Gene’s oldest sister Char was able to make it there. Next summer they will all get together to spread his ashes up in NY.
We haven’t heard about when our rv will be fixed or when the parts will come in.

Oct 3 & 4

Oct. 3 & 4
Left Whitehall and drove to Pownal Vermont where there is a Museum of Black WWII History. It was a small museum and had the owner, a white man, took us around and explained the museum. It is the only one of its kind in the US, and is not to glorify war but to document it-in particular to honor the long-ignored role of the African-American in the largest worldwide conflict in human history. There were 1.2 million African-Americans who served in the US Military including women in the WACS. Most of us know about the Tuskegee Airmen who escorted more than 200 bombing missions over Germany without the loss of a single bombers to enemy fighters, but did you know at Bastogne, at the Battle of the Bulge, half the artillery battalions surrounded by the Germans were black. An all black unit of Marines served in Iwo Jima. To say the little museum was interesting would be an understatement.
We then left to go to Becket Mass and our older son Gene’s place. Met his girlfriend Jacquie and her two kids, and talked for a while.
Next day we went to get an estimate on the damage to the trailer. Since it was Saturday we could not get in touch with the insurance company so we will have to wait till Monday or Tuesday. We did change a tire with the spare that was cut from the accident and they are ordering a new tire. They did say it would take 4 or 5 days till it could be fixed so we want the tow trucks insurance to pay for that. I was so ready to call it quits with the whole travel deal. We came home and I made dinner and Mark, another son, stayed to eat. It was nice. Then we watched “There Will Be Blood”. It was kind of slow but interesting ending. Not recommended for Steve & Bonnie.

Oct 2

It rained all night which was great for sleeping. We are staying Whitehall, NY the home of the insteption of the US Navy. The first Navy battleships were built here. Today was cool about 59 today as we took a ride to Vermont and visited 2 revolutionary war sites, Hubbardtown Vermont. It was the only battle in Vermont of the Revolutionary War. It was instrumental in delaying the British which aloud the American forces to regroup for the fight of Saratoga some weeks later. There were British, German and Canadian forces fighting at Hubbardtown. We then left for Mount Fort Independance it was the east side of Lake Champlain across from Fort Ticonderoga. The museum is shaped like a ships hull. To get to Ticonderoga we had to cross the lake on a ferry. Ticonderoga was built by the British in the mid 1700's. It was called Fort Carrillon during the French & Indian War. There were great artifacts including Washington's dueling pistols, a piece of Martha's wedding dress, and watch key presented to him by the US government. Beautiful powder horns, medical instruments, a lot of rifles one of which you were a loud to pick up, which I did. Boy was it heavy.
There was also a story about some men, can't remember names, who went up to the fort to get the cannons and drag over the snow and float them to Boston to help General Washington to use in the seige of Boston.
