Exit glacier & bears

Stopped at Exit Glacier and walked the trails. Saw black bear cub in the tree and the mother was at the bottom ( hard to see her in the pics). Then drove to Soldotna and camped overnight in a city campground. What a great place to spend our 31 anniversary. Dixie & Jim cooked up the fish he and Gene caught in Seward. How lucky we are to travel like this. That is where we saw the bald eagles in the nest. What a trip. We have also seen moose but we were driving 60mph and could not stop. On our way to Homer on the 26th.

Eagles, Magpie, etc. Our campground was on the Kenai river.

More Seward

Dixie & I visited the Alaska Sea Life Center while Jim & Gene went on a fishing trip. They caught fish but no salmon. There is a large mountain they call marathon mountain were on the 4th of July there are people that race up the mountain & back (for fun) It's over 3,000ft. Trying to get pics downloaded. sat up reading a book till Gene got back from his fishing trip. The unique thing is I read by the window light at 11:30 pm.

down town old Seward & vicinity

The otter pic was taken outside our camper. We were camped right on the beach. I hate to keep showing snowy mountains but that's what is all around us. All the buildings have murals on them. The photo album is a quick pic of Sewards history.

anchorage

We went shopping & shopping. Hadn't bought anything through BC & Yukon and needed groceries. Our 5th wheel is having trouble with a wheel and we took it in to be looked at by an authorized dealer for Dutchmen. There is a problem with the axle and moor ride system. At this moment we need to hear from Dutchmen whether they will honor the warranty. We will also need a new tire.
The campgrounds in Anchorage are minimal to say the least. The one with hookups costs a fortune and it is like being squeezed into a parking lot, one night to do laundry and the Internet. They have a great city campground but it is next to the main highway. No sound barriers were ever put in. Since it was in the woods and cheaper than the parking lot we stayed there 2 nights.
I had to go to Social Security office to straighten out their errors. So we did not do much in the city. We have been there 2 times so we did not miss anything.
We then headed for Seward. Again a gorgeous drive. It rained in the morning and cleared up about half way to Seward.
It is little seaside town with a quaint old section and a yuppie new town where the cruise boats come in. I am in the old section at an internet cafe.
Yesterday Dixie and I went to the Alaska Sea life Center. Great live exhibits. Puffins, otters, seals, sea lions, fish. You could even touch star fish, sea stars, sea anemones etc. We then went shopping and out to dinner. Meanwhile Gene & Jim went fishing and actually caught fish. We have about 4 days worth to cook for meals. Pictures from Anchorage and Seward follow. Can't seem to get the pics uploaded. We are on to Homer then to Kodiak Island. See ya when ever we can get on internet. We are thinking of everyone in Texas sweating as we bundle up.

pics at Valdez

pics

June 15 & 16

From Tok to Valdez. Beautiful morning and great drive with amazing scenery. Very expensive. Paid 5.15 for diesel. That was low for us. Enjoy our ride. We are having trouble uploading images from the library wifi. You will have to wait until we get to the next wifi. There is a picture of bear scat that is larger than my foot, a wolf or fox, swans and otters. We are trying to figure this out. It is June 19th and we are in Anchorage. Had to go to Social Securities to straighten out some things and we are shopping. Had not be in a grocery store since Grande Prairie, BC. We have the 5th wheel in another shop to see if they can figure out why one wheel is wearing on the outside. Frustrating....We have gone 5139 miles so far and are headed for Seward next.

June 15

I was able to call my daughter Marci and wish her a happy birthday. Finally had cell phone. I think this was the longest we have gone without using it.
We were in Tok, Alaska and made reservations on the ferry to go to Kodiak Island and stay at a b&b. Probably no wifi from June 28 to July 2 but we will be taking pictures and will get caught up.
After took we stopped on the roadside and had a beautiful view and we sat and drank outside.

June 13 & 14

We stopped in a little town on the way to Tok and had them turn the tire that is not wearing right. Went on down the road. There was a beautiful campground we stayed at on Thursday & Friday. One on the lake had a superior view. The other was in a forest along with mosquitoes, nats and flies. Woke in the morning to 42 degree temps. The road to Tok was very rough and took us 5 hours to get 120 miles. I do want to thank Julie for thinking of the blog. She is brilliant. Also could not do the blog with the computer given to us by our Texas kids.It is so hard to think as I write there is a band playing blue grass music at the Sourdough campground. We are
on our way to Anchorage. I don't know if I mentioned but we have daylight for 19 1/2 hours. Had to darken our windows in the bedroom.
