Sept 13,14

Sept. 13, 14
Left Texas at 7 am and drove 650 miles to Marion Ill. Missing hurricane IKE. We felt very smart avoiding the hurricane. Then 5:30 am Ike started into Ill... We left Marion at 8am on the 14th, with windy and rain conditions. We might have gone about 100 miles when the real down pour happened. The rain was coming down so hard you could not see the front of the truck. As the wind picked up our fuel mileage started to go down from 22mpg to 17mpg. Flooding was occurring along the road but we were able to make it to our granddaughter Andrea’s apartment with the furniture wet only in a few spots. We visited for about an hour and had only 30 miles to go. It was about 4:30 and felt we had plenty of time to get to the motel and relax. We were using our TOMTOM and it did great until we hit road blocks. They can give you detour info but what we found was the roads were all flooded and you can’t put that into the device. It took us 3hrs to go the 30 miles. Traffic was horrific. The main east/west 80/90 was flooded along with side roads. We saw the hotel but could not get to it but we finally were able to zig and zag around and got to the hotel. Then found the parking lot flooded.
