The ride down to Stewart, pop. was beautiful. Winding roads with the lakes full, mountains snow covered, and the road a lot better. As soon as we got to Stewart, pop. 699, we camped at Bear River CG, set up the rv and took the truck to go to Hyder, pop 100. Again the road is dirt and pretty rough at times. The truck is doing great but is muddy and dirty. When we got to the bear lookout the ranger told us to hurry from the parking area. Of course we did but the bear had gone down stream. We were told that the bears, both grizzly and black come to the stream to eat salmon. There are salmon there and more trying to come up from the ocean. We waited around a while and decided to drive up to the top of the road, 29 miles of rough, windy, narrow, dusty road to the top of the hill. There is a overlook to the Salmon Glacier. It was a harrowing road but worth the trip. The pictures don’t do the area justice.
When we came down the mountain we again went to the boardwalk to the Fish Creek to see the bears eat the salmon. We stay another 2 hrs but the bears did not get the message that we were waiting for them. The salmon were fun to observe. Watching the females clean the area and lay her eggs. The male came in to fertilize and chased away any other males that wanted into the area. Gene got some good shots on video. Got back to the rv had dinner and watched tv for the first time in months. We went to bed with dreams of great pictures with bears eating fish.
