Yorkton
Yorkton, July 12, 2010
It was so nice being able to sleep late and take our time getting up and out. I made a spinach omelet for breakfast. Later we went for a ½ mile walk (What a beautiful day to walk.)to the Western Development Museum. It told the history of the immigrants that left everything they new, families, and countries left, behind to build a home here in Canada in the 1850’s. Just like in the United States treaties were written and broken over and over again. The Cree, Blackfoot, Nakota, Dene and other tribes were here when the Europeans, Scandinavians, Icelanders migrated here. There possessions, innovations and achievements and diversity they brought to Saskatchewan were exhibited. For $10 the immigrants were give 160 acres to homestead. It became a farming community. Pictures that I have downloaded show some of the farming equipment, from steam to gas tractors. There were also dioramas of what the different cultures and religions that they brought to the town.
There are Saskatoon Berries outside our trailer just waiting to be picked. Gene filled a cup and we will have them with our cereal. I wonder if that is what I am allergic to.
Meanwhile the weather is wonderful right now. but, they have had so much rain here that the crops are not doing well. The forecast this evening has warning of a lot of rain and possibly hail coming from Alberta. There is flooding south of us in Regina. The temperature is supposed to get down to 18 degrees centigrade tonight, let’s see you figure it out.
