Travel through Ontario was great but camping was very expensive, for us.
We stayed just outside of Thunder Bay. I would have loved to stay a few days but it was too pricey. We went for a ride around town, and the next day we headed for Manitoba, Canada. Little did we know, that first we were traveling on a Saturday, and second, Manitoba had a big music festival and all the campgrounds were full, and the pull offs were not suitable for camping. The women at the counter in the travel bureau took pity on us and let us stay in the parking lot. It was a huge lot and off the highway. It rained a little and the weather turned cool. When we awoke this morning it was only 58 degrees. It would have been nice to visit Manitoba but…
All the towns we go thru are very rural. It is mostly flat prairie and farms. The yellow fields are growing canola, mustard, peas, flax, etc. . . . I never thought of canola as a grain, duh. We stopped at the Saskatchewan visitor’s center to get info and a map. Then we stopped at the City of Yorkton visitor’s center and received more info on camping. We have gained two hours of time and my internal clock is going nuts. Anyway, at the Yorkton Visitors Center they have a walk way that gives you information on all the grains and different crops they grow, about 33 different crops…Very interesting. Gene liked the campground and the price is more reasonable so we decided we would stay 2 days. There is a museum in town we want to see. The couple at the campground told us that on July 1, there was a flood. The town had over 5 inches of rain in just 90 minutes and a lot of people are still without a home. All the lakes are over there banks. The campground had a number of sites under water.
Meanwhile, with the permission of the campground owner, Gene cut some branches that were in our way. He cut the branches and I picked them up and tossed them in a pile. I later developed a rash on my hands. I was allergic to something, glad I had some Benadryl
