Terrace, BC August 1
We have acquainted ourselves with Terrace. A very nice town in the valley of snow capped mountains. This morning we picked a road looking for the Kermodei Bear. The bear is a rare sub-species of the common North American black bear family. Only two adults with the same recessive gene can produce a Kermodei bear. It is not a polar bear or albino. The average weight is 250-300pounds for a female and 500 pounds for a male. They were first identified in 1905. The First Nation People feel it is "The Spirit Bear". Unfortunately we did not see one. We spoke to people in town that has never seen the bear after living here for years.
We came home for lunch and decided to go to Kitamat, BC. There we saw the largest Sika Spruce tree in BC and waterfalls and met Oralie & Mark. They wanted to see how far we could reach around the tree. It was a great day since the temp is only in the 80's.
We got an email from Hyder saying electricity should be on this afternoon and the danger of flooding has past, so we are going back up there on Monday. Once there we can't download pictures. Sorry about some of the pictures I downloaded. I thought I deleted all the bad or fuzzy pics, but I saw I was wrong. I have to go through all the pictures as thumbnails or small pics and there are usually 45 or 50. It took a few hours to upload the pics and I was getting tired. I know no excuses. I will do better next time.(hopefully)

Stumbled upon your blog today. Glad you had great weather for your visit. I've been a life-long resident of Terrace and the only time I've seen a Kermode Bear was years ago at the City of Terrace dump before it was all fenced off. a Tour buses used to visit the dump so sightseers could see the bears.
I've added links to your blog entries to my community website at NorthCoast BC Online - Bloggers Group
Thanks for sharing the great photos!
Welcome aboard!
