Back at Hyder
Hyder Alaska Again
We got back up here about 4, had dinner and went up to the viewing area. There were many people we know so it was like home coming week, and finding out what they had been doing. Met some lovely couples from Vancouver Island and had some great conversation... It was their first time there. I really enjoyed talking to them. Saw Kim and he informed us what was going on that day. Morning produces a lot of bears and action but since noon nothing. Meara one of the female bears came in and we have photos of her catching a fish. There were so many people on the boardwalk that we decided to go home a 7:30pm and get up at 5:30am since we heard the morning was a good time. It really is starting to stink around there with all the dead fish lying on the bank. The rangers said that wolves have been down there. The evidence is that they eat only the heads and they found 3 headless salmon. The eagles, gulls, and young bears go in to eat the carrion. The ranger mentioned that the bellies of the bears are getting large and that means they might have worms from eating the rotting fish. They will eat some berries to clear up the intestinal problem, and if we ate the berries that would happen to us.
We found out our friend Nancy Wheeler, the photographer is back and staying where we are so we will probably get together with her tomorrow evening.
Right now we are staying thru Wednesday depending on what we see we are flexible enough to change our plans, besides there are forest fires all around BC and where we have to go to get out of BC. You can see in the pics that you can hardly see the mountains. The haze is smoke from the fires in the Yukon. You can smell the smoke.
