Hyder
Boy did we have some excitement when we went up to view the bears. The road going up to the viewing area is dirt and the dust from the vehicles is turning the plant life white, so we were going real slow, 10mph when a grizzly bear came sliding down the slippery sloop out of the mountain side and almost slide right into our truck. Gene locked up the brakes. The bear miss the front bumper and went in front of our stopped truck. The first thing Gene said was did you get a picture? Of course, I didn’t. That was scary for us and the bear. The consequences of the damage to the bear and our truck would have been disastrous.
The bears seem to have found another fishing hole when it was real hot because we have only seen one on the creek and only one young eagle. We figured we have enough pictures and will leave on Thursday as planned.
The wild fires are still going on and will have to change our direction and not go to Vancouver. We will just have to look up on the computer and find out if there are any road closures.
Meanwhile we went out to dinner with Kim and Nancy. They are not a couple. Nancy suggested going into Stewart to a pizza place. The pizza was great…along with the conversation.
On the way out of Stewart we stopped at their board walk that goes out to the view the harbor. It was such a pleasant evening, down in the low 60’s. When we got back we went back up to Fish Creek and then decided to go home. We met Nancy and invited her in and we talked until 11pm. She left and we played Shanghai Rummy till 12:20 am. It was another great day.
