Battle Ground N.P., WA There was never a battle in Battle Ground, WA. In 1855 there was almost a battle with the white men and Indians. The Indians were held by the white men, but their chief died and they wanted to bury him in the proper way. They said if they were released to do this they would come back on there own, and they did, averting a battle. We hiked about 2 miles up into the forest on trails. There was a lake below with many people swimming and kayaking but we took to the forest. The huge giant spruce and cedar trees gave us plenty of shade since it was 87 degrees out at 1pm. Tomorrow we will go on toward Crater Lake, OR.
