Columbian Gorge, OR

Columbian Gorge, 8/17
There are many waterfalls in the gorge but the highest is Multnomah Falls at 620 ft. It is the second tallest year-round waterfall in the nation. Fed by underground springs, the flow over the fall is greatest during winter and spring, but there was an impressive amount of water coming off today. The spray is nice and cool since temperatures are rising here in Oregon. We hiked to the falls after hiking to Wahkenna Falls an impressive falls but not as high as Multnomah Falls. It was beautiful and cool hiking in the woods. I would have liked to hike more but my ankle felt better and I did not wish to over due.
We could see Mt. Hood as we drove along the highway and I bet Mt. St. Helens would have been visible today, but…
After all that hiking we decided to visit some wineries. We only had time for two because they close at 5. Cathedral Ridge Winery was the best for me but Gene liked Hood River. Gene likes the sweeter wines and port. They are charging $5 for taste testing and if you buy a bottle they deduct that with your purchase. We shared the tasting. At $5 dollars every time we go into a winery we will be broke. So we are being more selective on where we go. We decided to wait for Californian to do any more tasting since we already bought 3 bottles. Last year in New York they only charged $2 for tasting which seems more reasonable.
Tomorrow we are going to do a little more hiking and not as much driving.
