August 12
Blaine, WA
Today was to be a lazy day. We stayed in bed and watched some morning TV, took showers and then decided to go to Bellingham, WA to get a prescription of Gene’s filled at the Wal Mart. It was going to take two hours to fill the prescription, so we decided to go out to lunch at a Chinese restaurant right near the store. We all ways split a meal but for some reason we each ordered. We got a doggie bag for the left over’s, and Gene went back to see if the prescription was ready. Meanwhile I was reading the map and saw there was a drive up to Mt Baker and a glacier. Since we love the snow we decided to go for a ride. We missed the ranger station were we would have gotten all the information we needed and drove over 50mile and finally found what we were looking for, the glacier, the Mountain and the most beautiful scenery. It was so quite up there all you heard was your own breathing until you heard another car coming. It was 5:30 when we got to the mountain and we were hungry so we ate the rest of our lunch. I just happened to have forks in the car. The top of Mt. Baker was hard to photograph because the clouds kept coming in. We have some pictures but unless we pointed out to you the top you would not recognize it. It was a wonderful afternoon.
Now there was one problem ME. I had twisted my ankle yesterday on a rock and it was hurting, so while we were at the store we got me an ankle brace. I tried to stay off it as much as I could because tomorrow we are going to Mt. St. Helens and I want to be able to hike. The body is breaking down to fast, I have things to do.
Hope you enjoy some of the pictures we took. Do you see what the temperature was up there? You could actually walk to the snow, so, I made a snow ball that I threw it at Gene.
On the road to Mt. Baker we saw many people riding bicycles and that reminded me of a funny thing that happened in Hyder when a man road his bike I am not sure how many miles, up and over the mountains and to come to Fish Creek. When he walked on the deck he was still riding his bike, as he was walking it was like he was still peddling the bike. I had never seen this before.
